Atfaluna Successfully Supports Persons with Disabilities in Gaza
Gaza City, Palestine, November 2018 – Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children established a new cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme under the title of “Vocational Training and Job Creation Program for People with Disabilities in the Gaza Strip”, which will establish the foundation for a new horizon of economic and social inclusion for the persons with disabilities in the Gaza Strip.
The project aims at improving the socio-economic statuses of persons with disabilities in the Gaza Strip through employability skills development and job creation opportunities through a variety of livelihood and awareness-raising activities, including (2) vocational training courses for (33) persons with hearing disability in the fields of cooking, baking & embroidery. In addition, the project will provide (4) job guidance & counselling workshops for the same target group.
Moreover, the target group will be enrolled in an entrepreneurship and small businesses management course, as well as access to (33) internship opportunities in both private and public sectors over the (15) months period, and (1) opportunity of establishing a small business.
“This partnership with The UNDP will help us bring more positive changes to the lives of the persons with disabilities in the Gaza Strip. We are always ambitious to extend our efforts for such noble purposes”, said Naim Kabaja, ASDC Director.
As part of ASDC’s work to shed light on the rights of the persons with disabilities in the Gaza Strip, the project will implement (3) awareness workshops targeting the private & public sectors, micro business organizations, employment agencies, and vocational training centers. In addition, the project will target the decision and policy makers through advocacy efforts of (30) lobbying meetings.
Atfaluna Society for Deaf Children is a non-profit organization that endeavors to empower persons with hearing disability as well as persons with other disabilities in the Gaza Strip and improve their quality of life within a disability-inclusive development framework.
